In 1943, Ansel joined the Merchant Marines and became a machinist engineer. Upon completing his training, the U.S. Army made him an offer that he couldn't refuse. He was inducted into the Army in 1944 at the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He served in Europe and in the South Pacific during the war and was discharged in 1947. Ansel immediately recognized that he actually enjoyed the Army and joined the Army Reserves and retired in 1967, at the rank of Captain.
In 1947, Ansel met and married the love of his life, Jeneice Walker, and subsequently they moved to the city of Everett, where he became employed in the lumber industry and began a family. Ansel was employed by the Weyerhaeuser Timber Company where he became a foreman and eventually retired as Fiber Coordinator.
Ansel was also a lifetime member of the American Legion in Astoria, Oregon.
Ansel was preceded in death by his wife; mother and father; and most of his siblings.
He is survived by his little brother, Frank (Betty) Braley, of Garner, North Carolina; son, Ansel Jr. "Butch" (Cheryl) Braley, of Camano Island, Washington; grandson, Mike (Gabrielle) Braley, of Stanwood, Washington; granddaughters, Brandi (Eric) Cole, of Bellingham, Washington, and Heather (Darren) Boswell, of Everett; and great-grandson, Steven Ansel Boswell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Fri, Apr 21, at Purdy and Walter at Floral Hills in Lynnwood, Washington. Published in The Herald (Everett) from April 19 to April 21, 2006
