Schenectady Gazette, Wednesday, October 5, 1938. October 4--W. Curtiss, Well Known Businessman, Expires. William M. Curtis, 83, for more than 46 years a resident of this city, died early today at his home, 243 Nelson avenue, following a slight cold and heart trouble. A well-known figure in Saratoga places of business, Mr. Curtis was born in East Greenwich, May 15, 1855. He was employed there for several years as a weaver. On coming to this city, he was employed by Jesse Hammond, lumber dealer, for about 20 years and later by Clarence R. Parmenter, building contractor. His son is Raymond H. Curtis, operator of the Menges and Curtis Drug Store, Broadway. Surviving, besides his son, are one daughter. Mrs. Reuben L. DeLong, Ballston Spa; three grandsons, Leroy H., Howard K., and William D. DeLong, all of Ballston Spa; three great grand children and two nephews. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, at the home and Rev. H. Elliott Chaffee will officiate. Burial will be in Greenridge cemetery.
