Enlisted for 12 months' service on 4/18/1861 at Charlestown, Virginia, he was mustered into "G" Co., Virginia 2nd Infantry.
Reenlisted for the duration of the war.
Wounded In Action 5/3/1863 in Battle of Chancellorsville; right arm amputated.
Absent, "unfit for duty" due to severity of wound, on all Rolls through March & April 1864 Roll.
Present, Attached 5/28/1863 at C.S.A. General Hospital, Staunton, VA. though final Roll.
Paroled 4/22/1865 at Winchester, Virginia.

The 2nd Infantry Regiment was assembled at Charles Town in April, 1861, then moved to Harper's Ferry to seize the armory. The unit was accepted into Confederate service in July. Its companies were from the counties of Clarke, Frederick, Floyd, Jefferson, and Berkeley. It became part of the Stonewall Brigade.
