He was the oldest son of Charles and Mary King. He was married in 1867 to Lucy Jane Shelley of Newton, Jasper, Iowa, and were nearly married fifty-eight years. There were five children in the family: Mary, Ida, Ella, Lucy and Charles. Mary and Charles preceded their parents in death.
