Obituary for Maris June Clough
AMELIA, VA - Maris June Walker Clough, 76, of Amelia, VA, formerly of Lashmeet, died Saturday, February 22, 2014 after a long struggle with health problems. Born June 22, 1937 at Lashmeet, she was the daughter of the late Ivan Elsworth Walker and Brookie White Walker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grayson Clough; two brothers, Donald Walker and Elsworth Walker; and her sister, Karen Walker Clough.

Mrs. Clough was a graduate of Matoaka High School, class of 1955. After her marriage in 1965, she made her home in Mineral, VA for 35 years. She was a charter member of the Grace Presbyterian Church at Lashmeet and a member of the Dogwood Baptist Church near Mineral. She worked in the office for the Virginia Department of Highways until her retirement. A widow and in declining health, she returned to Lashmeet in 2000 to be near her loving family. She moved in with her beloved aunt and uncle, Ruby and Burwin Mills, where she was well taken care of for several years. Her days there were spent playing cards, crocheting, working jigsaw puzzles, and baking her famous custard pies. June loved children and especially enjoyed rocking babies. She was a very kind and selfless person who always put others before herself. She had been a resident of the Amelia Nursing and Rehab Center in Amelia, VA for the last nine years. After experiencing her fair share of adversity in life, she is finally at peace. She had a large extended family that loved her.

Some survivors include Barbara Setliff, Norman Mills, Sandra White, Harry Mills, Ray Mills, Rex Mills, Arlene Atwood, Carol Reed and Ettalee Etheridge. She also had a son.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Grace Presbyterian Church in Lashmeet with Pastor Norman Mills officiating. Mrs. Clough has been laid to rest next to her husband and sister at the Dogwood Baptist Church Cemetery near Mineral, VA.
