Bernice Fae Eaves, 91, died on August 23, 2012, in Dallas, Texas, after a long illness. She was born December 13, 1920, in Madison County to Otho and Cassie Peters. She had three sisters and two brothers, all of whom preceded her and whom she mourned to the day of her own death. Bernice married Virgil E. Eaves in 1939 and moved to Houston, where she helped organize and manage a volleyball team, the Houstonettes, which won the AAU International Volleyball Tournament in Los Angeles in 1949. She and Virgil moved their family to Justin, Texas, in 1959, where they operated the local grocery store, Virgil's Fine Foods.

Bernice worked shoulder to shoulder with Virgil while quietly helping him compensate for his near-blindness for most of their married life. Bernice had a passion for arts and crafts projects and loved to travel with the Justin Trailblazers senior center group. Bernice is survived by her daughter Janice Gail Dooley, son Virgil E. Eaves Jr., daughter-in-law Sharon G. Eaves, granddaughters Janet D. Dooley, Cynthia G. Dooley, and Ayla M. Eaves, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be remembered not only for her loving and generous nature but for the sense of fun and perfect comic timing, even in her final years.

Visitation will be held at Denton Funeral Home, 120 S Carroll Blvd, on August 25, 2012 at 3pm, and will be followed by services conducted by Pastor James Vanzant at 4pm. Interment will occur on August 26 at 3pm at Rock Prairie Cemetery in Madison County, Texas where she will rest beside her beloved Virgil. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to the Alzheimer's Association in Bernice's remembrance.
