Harold A. Turbett, age 82, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Friday, August 24, 2012, at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

Born February 6, 1930, in Mifflintown, he was a son of the late Harold M. and Anna Catherine (Crisswell) Turbett.

Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves while in high school and went on to serve in the Marines during the Korean War.

He was a founding member of the Lisburn Community Fire Company and, over the years, served as president and fire chief on numerous occasions.

Harold was always an active and prominent figure in the community and would volunteer his services in whatever ways he could.

In his free time, Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at his cabin in Sullivan County, was an avid reader, and loved spending time with his great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia L. Turbett, and his brother, Carl D. Turbett.

Surviving is his wife, Doris (Swartz) Turbett; his children, Elaine A. Cady and husband Stephen P. of Lisburn, Stephen A. Turbett wife Denise of Lisburn, and Kathryn M. Martel and husband Daniel of North Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren Troy Ross, Jeffrey Laughman, Chad Laughman, and Jennifer Bray; as well as 11 great-grandchildren and his sister, Greta Varner of Mifflintown.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 27 at Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg.

Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

There will be a viewing at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, August 26.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lisburn Community Fire Company, 1800 Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
