Dorothea I. 'Dot' Daley, 91, Brewster school teacher of many generations
EAST BREWSTER - Dorothea Isabel (Rowse) "Dot" Daley, 91, passed away peacefully at her home on Nov. 7, 2007, after a brief illness.

Born in Swanzey, N.H. in 1916, she graduated in 1938 from Framingham State Teachers College. In 1939, she came to the Cape, where she started teaching in the Brewster school system.

It was in Brewster that she met and married Jim Daley, the Cushman Bakery man, in 1941. Together they bought their homestead at Halliday Acres in East Brewster, where they raised their family.

They ran and operated a summer cottage rental business known as the White Gates Cottages for many years. Along with Osborne and Priscilla Bearse, the Daleys built and ran the Stoney Acres Farm which is now the Brewster Fish House Restaurant, and also owned and operated cranberry bogs in Brewster.

After many years of teaching in Brewster, she moved with the 5th grade class to the Nauset Regional Middle School in Orleans, where she continued to teach until her retirement in 1977.

After retiring, she and Jim enjoyed spending winters in Winter Haven, Fla. Dot also enjoyed traveling, reading, and walking, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren, family and many friends. She was a member of the Brewster Baptist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Brewster Ladies Library, and the Brewster Historical Society.

She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Jim Daley, her son, Lt. Walter "Skip" Daley, and a grandson, Craig Daley.

Surviving are a daughter and her husband, a son and his wife, her grandchildren and spouses, and two great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at the Brewster Baptist Church, on Main Street, in Brewster, on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brewster Memorial Scholarship Fund, at the Cape Cod Five (Brewster Branch), Brewster, MA 02631.
