Berlin L. Armstrong, 78, died Thursday evening, Oct. 26, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Salem following a long illness Mr. Armstrong was a former member of the Highland County Board of Supervisors, representing Stonewall District on the board from 1948 to 1960. He was born Sept. 3, 1894, in Pendleton County, W.Va., near Moyers, a son of J. Riley and Hannah Simmons Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Moyers. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of Highland Post 155 of the American Legion, serving as commander of the post for 15 years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lula Rexrode Armstrong of McDowell; a daughter, Mrs. Edna Friel of Covington; four sons, Walter R. Armstrong of Staunton, Glen Armstrong of Olney Md., Gene D. Armstrong of Glen Allen and Benny W. Armstrong of McDowell; five sisters, Mrs. Viola Armstrong of Washington, Mrs. Phoebe Toderoff of Williamsburg, Miss Elizabeth Armstrong of Harrisonburg, Mrs. Louie Cavanaugh of Arlington, and Mrs. Mattie Sumner of New York; a brother, Dice Armstrong of Orem, Utah; 15 grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. A sister, Helen E. Armstrong, preceded him in death. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at Doe Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. S. Kullman, the Rev. Jack Maxwell and the Rev. Riley Smith officiating. Burial was in Doe Hill Cemetery.
