John worked for the Waikiki Dairy Farms with his brothers as a driver and mechanic. Later, he worked as a Greyhound bus driver.
On June 29th, 1927 in Spokane, he married Sara Miller, who he'd met in Strathmore as a child. They had two children in Spokane, likely living in the "Big House" (her parents house) across from Whitworth College, then they moved to Tekoa, Washington where they lived for about 14 or so years. They moved back to Spokane sometime in the year before John died.
