Royal Navy Second World War Distinguished Service Medal recipient and Australian Vietnam veteran. On January 23, 1945, the London Gazette, announced that Leading Motor Mechanic Albert Owen Burrows, P/MX.117678 had been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for outstanding courage, skill and determination in operations in the Mediterranean in light coastal craft. He subsequently joined the Australian Army serving with the Royal Australia Engineers. Burrows was a temporary warrant officer class 2 with 32 Small Ship Squadron aboard AV 1355 Vernon Sturdee that served in Vietnam waters between April 11 and July 27, 1966 and again in the following year between June 5 and August 28, 1967.
