Edith was born on April 17, 1914 in Orrick, Missouri to Leslie B. Hilliard (1894 - 1945) and Jessie M. Hilliard (1896 - 1973).

Edith married Owen Compton on May 10, 1938. Edith and Owen had two sons: Kerry Compton and Michael H. Compton (1938 - 2011)

Edith was a member of the Blue Ridge Blvd. United Methodist Church, Raytown, Missouri, the P. E. O. Sisterhood, the Independence Junior Service League and the Kansas City Bridge Association.

She passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Westwood Nursing Center, in Clinton, Missouri. Services were held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 26, 2007 at Floral Hills Chapel, in Raytown, Missouri

She was survived by one son, Mike Compton of Clinton, Missouri and one granddaughter, Kerri Ann Hartzell of Lee's Summit, Missouri.

Edith will always be remembered for her sense of humor, her strong spirit, her loving ways and her never ending zest for life.
