Michael H. Compton, age 72 of Clinton, Missouri passed away Monday, January 31, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri following a brief illness. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton. Mike's wishes were to be cremated. Family suggests contributions to P.A.W.S. for the no-kill animal shelter and may be left at the funeral home. Fond memories may be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com.

Mike was born December 17, 1938, the son of Owen and Edith Hilliard Compton. He grew up in Raytown, Missouri and graduated from Raytown High School. He graduated from William Jewell College in l963 where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was also an assistant coach at William Jewell and his love of sports was lifelong. He honorably served in the United State Army.

He was a small business owner and manufacturers' representative during his working years, and was a member of the National Association of Manufacturers. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, No. 3667, Clinton. He was a lover of animals and nature. To vastly undersate the matter, Mike lived for duck hunting and was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Inc.

You could not mention the name of any person he had not met or knew.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Kerry and his beloved wife, Sharon Marksberry Compton.

He is survived by four cousins, Linda Jonson of Pineville, Louisiana, Jeffrey Compton of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Cindy Jackson of Franklin, Tennessee and Philip Compton of Florence, Alabama and a legion of friends.
