Major James R. Cannon, USMC (Ret.), age 74, a resident of Los Lunas since 1986, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011. James is survived by his wife, Judy Cannon, sons, Kevin Cannon and Corey Cannon, daughters, Dawn Smith and Faith Cook, eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, brothers, Jack Cannon USMC (Ret.) and Lonnie Cannon and his wife, Betty, sister, June Trigger, numerous other relatives and his beloved dogs, Bear and Daisy. James was born during the depression in King George, VA to Clyde and Tishie Belle Cannon. After graduation from high school Jim entered the United States Marines and served in Vietnam, proudly serving 24 years. Jim loved to spend time on the computer emailing, working out at the gym, eating, and walks with his wife. James was a Baptist and everything he did reflected his Christianity. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Friends and family may visit French - University Chapel on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at French - University Chapel on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with full military honors. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to your local no-kill animal shelter.
