Dayton Alexander Akin passed away Oct. 13, 2008, in Scottsdale, Ariz. He was born Aug. 17, 1916, to Harry Caldwell Akin and Ada Barksdale Akin in Franklin County, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Elah Keeton Akin. He is survived by his son, Stephen Akin and wife, Jan McWilliams Akin, of Phoenix, Ari.; his granddaughter, Anne Elizabeth Akin, of Tucson, Ariz.; and his sister, Faye Akin Turner, of Florence, Ala.

He served in the U.S. Army on active duty in France during World War II and was active in commercial, civic and community endeavors for more than 30 years in Tuscumbia, Ala. He served as director and president of Muscle Shoals National Bank from its founding until its eventual sale in 1981. He was much loved and will be missed by family and friends.

A private memorial service will be held for the family, and contributions in memory of Dayton may be made to First United Methodist Church, of Tuscumbia, 104 E. Third Street, Tuscumbia, AL 35674.
