Chance Citizen Commits Suicide

(Reprinted from the 'Adair County News')

Wesley McIntire, 46, committed suicide at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon at
his home near Chance by shooting himself in the chest with a shotgun.
Ill health was given as the reason for the act.
An inquest was held by Coroner Arbie Sparks.
Mr. McIntire is survived by his wife, six children and his
step-mother, Mrs. Rena McIntire. Mrs. Luther Wheat of this city is a
half-sister of the deceased.
Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at Emery's
Chapel, conducted by Rev. W.H. Hale. Burial was in the McGinnis
graveyard.

Transcriber's note: The article incorrectly states Mrs. Luther Wheat was
a half-sister of the deceased. Arrena 'Rena' Melson first married Martin
Wheat, and they were the parents of Luther Wheat (who married Maude
Hale). Around 1903, Arrena and Martin divorced, and she later married
Mr. L.M. McIntire, Wesley's father. Therefore, Wesley McIntire and
Luther Wheat -- not Luther's wife -- were 'related' by marriage; i.e.,
they were step-brothers. The minister who conducted the funeral service, W.H. (William Henry Hale), was Maude (Mrs. Luther) Wheat's father.
The KY death record abstracts give his death date as 3 April 1942.
