Albemarle AV-S, sailing from Norfolk, Virginia, in Dec 1841. He served on several ships during his service; his last as Coxswain aboard the U.S.S. Sproston DD-577.
After the war, John went to Detroit marrying Virgie Rhea Harris in Wayne County, Michigan on 22 Jan 1947. Virgie was born 12 Oct 1924 in Lebanon, Wilson, Tennessee. The 1950 census shows they left Wayne County, Michigan in 1949, settling in John's native Jackson County, Tennessee. They must have divorced, as Virgie had married _____ Holden by 1972.
