James I. Bittner, 76, of Beech Creek, passed away on Aug. 26, 2012 in the comfort of his home with his family by his side. Born on April 10, 1936, in Howard Township, he was the son of the late George L. & Genevieve D. Lytle Bittner.

On May 6, 1960 in Beech Creek he married Mary Ruth Brown Potts, who survives at home.

Jim graduated from Lock Haven High School. He served eight years in the United States Army National Guard, 728th Maintenance Battalion from Lock Haven, where he earned the rank of Specialist E5.

Jim retired from Cerro Metal in Bellefonte after more than 30 years of service. He had been employed at Piper Aircraft, Hammermill Paper, Weis Markets, Spotts' Store and Scantlins Service Station.

Jim was a lifetime member of the Beech Creek-Blanchard Volunteer Fire Co., and a charter member of the Furnace Run Hunting Club. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed spending time in the outdoors and spending time with his family and friends.

Jim is survived by his loving wife; his son, Keith L. Bittner and his wife, Denise; two grandchildren, Morgan and Makenna; and a brother, Charles "Chink" Bittner, all of Beech Creek.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Lloyd, Donald, Kenneth, Gerald and George.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012 at 10 a.m., at the Beech Creek Wesleyan Church, 217 Main St., Beech Creek, with Rev. Alan S. Eckenroad officiating.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Hays-Fearon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Beech Creek-Blanchard Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 225, Beech Creek, PA 16822 or to Beech Creek Wesleyan Church, P.O. Box 39, Beech Creek, PA 16822.
