Asa purchased land in Swanton in 1788 from Silas Hathaway. He was town selectman and town clerk at various times. According to Child's Gazateer, Asa's brother Jesse joined him in Swanton one year after Asa arrived. Asa was married to Abigail Ferguson, from whom he was separated later in life.
