CHARLOTTE SHOUP , was born in Jhangen Zeiler, France, in the year 1831. When but a small child, in 1833, she accompanied her parents to Canada. August 30, 1853, she became the wife of Benjamin Shoup. In 1859 they left their Canada home and came to Carroll county, Illinois. The year following in 1860 they moved to a farm in Jordan township, now occupied by their son, walter. They retired from the farm in 1890 and moved to Milledgeville. Mr. Shoup died about ten years ago. In 1901 on account of failing health Mrs. Shoup left her home in Milledgeville and made her home with her son on the old homestead where she passed away Tuesday evening, may 7th, after an illness which extended from the first of last December. Mrs. Shoup was a kind neighbor and a Christian woman. She united with the Methodist church in Canada in 1856. She is mourned by her two children, Walter and Mrs. Alice Fuller, the latter of Lake City, Iowa, and nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted from the South Elkhorn church Thursday forenoon, Rev. Warrington of Milledgeville officiating. The interment was made in the cemetery near by. The relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Alice Fuller of Lake City, Iowa and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Myers of Rock Falls. Contributed by Karen Fyock - 1908 clipping
