Madison Daily Leader, dated 3-4-1940, McCook County Woman dies, Mrs. Irene Iola Van Voorhis Salisbury, 50, dies following a series of strokes. Sadly Mrs. Salisbury suffered a series of strokes during the past year. She passed in the morning, she was the wife of Lester Hartshorn Salisbury a McCook county farmer residing 15 miles south of Madison near Montrose, she was at home when she passed. She suffered the first stroke, January 19, 1939. Last Tuesday a second left her unconscious, and later in the week she was stricken a third time. Irene Iola Van Voorhis was born near Beresford, May 31, 1889, moving to Montrose with her parents in March, 1911. Sept. 26 of that year she was married to Lester Hartshorn Salisbury. They had two sons, Harris Salisbury of Kokomo Colorado, and Curtis Lester Salisbury of Montrose, a daughter, Miss Atha Salisbury. Her mother Martha Van Voorhis of Montrose, a brother, Samuel Van Voorhis of Montrose, and two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Baldwin, Bridgewater, and Miss Atha VanVoorhis, Montrose.
