John in his early years was a farmer working for R.L Bayne his future father in law.
He was a World War I veteran. After the war he became a tobacco auctioneer traveling around the South. In 1935 he went to work for Byck Electric Co. in Savannah, Ga. as a retail salesman.
In 1937 he went to Savannah Maytag Co. continuing in the capacity of salesman and sales supervisor until 1939 and he was promoted to Southeastern District Sales Manager for Maytag. During WW II he traveled southwest Georgia for Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co. as an auctioneer.
On Jan. 1,1946 he returned to Maytag Southeastern as a regional sales manager in southern Georgia where he worked until his death on Dec. 26, 1950.
