Funeral services for Lemuel J. Banister, Jr., 88, of Cadiz, were held on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz. The Revs. Kenny Rogers and Jamus Redd officiated. Burial followed in Trigg Memory Acres in Cadiz. Goodwin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Banister died of natural causes at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at his residence in Cadiz.

He was born on June 25, 1924, in Trigg County to the late Lemuel James and Julia Bell Bridges Banister, Jr.

Mr. Banister was a retired Federal Civil Service employee form Ft. Campbell. He was a United States Army veteran, a member of Cadiz Methodist Church, Cadiz Masonic Lodge No. 121, American Legion Post 74 and VFW Post No. 7890.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Mae Banister; one sister, Dorothy Parrent; one son, Charles Ray Banister; and one niece, Joan Parrent Payne.

He is survived by one son David Banister (and wife Diane) of Cadiz; two grandchildren, Dr. Jason Banister (and wife Karen) of Paducah and Carrie Banister of Cadiz; three great-grandchildren, Sarah, David and Samuel Banister; one nephew, Donnie Parrent; and two great-nieces, Elizabeth Ann Hayes and Julia Lynn Haun.

Serving as pallbearers were Hollis Alexander, Chad Grace, John R. Vinson, III, Johnny Oliver, Paul Godwin, Donnie Parrent, Donnie Pogue and Rick Clement. Music was provided by Pam Witty, organist.
