Helen Broadfoot, age 93 passed away on August 30, 2012 at Munson Hospice House.
Helen was born January 25, 1919 in Saginaw, Michigan to Catherine and Leo Kalahar. She was a lifetime Michigan resident, spending most of her years in Traverse City.
In 1936, Helen graduated from Traverse City High School and went on to Lewis-Chapin Business School. She worked as a secretary for 25 years.
Helen married John R. Broadfoot of Traverse City on April 5, 1942 and enjoyed 58 years of marriage before he died in March, 2000. They had 2 children, a son J. Randall Broadfoot (Diane) of Bay City, Michigan, and a daughter, Monica Johnson (James) of Tucson, Arizona. They had 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, sisters Isabel Fitch, Vera Whitson, Patricia Whaley, Dorothy Bodnar, and a brother, Robert Kalahar.
Helen was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Phoebe Circle, PEO Chapter DC in Traverse City, Trillium Garden Club, and several bridge clubs. She was a past member of Daisy Chain Elks, Traverse City Musicale, Ahgosa Dance Club and Traverse City Country Club.
A memorial service celebrating Helen's life will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 11:00 am at Central United Methodist Church. Graveside services will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Central United Methodist Church or PEO Chapter DC.
