Jimmy Earl Abernathy, 41, of Loraine, a truck driver, died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday (July 29, 1990) near Mendon.
Mr. Abernathy was born Dec. 19, 1948, in Montgomery, Ala., a son of Ernest Hugh and Betty Jean Abernathy. He married Cleona Faye Biswell in August 1979 in Nevada. She survives.
Mr. Abernathy attended Montgomery schools and was employed by Shaffer Trucking, based in Pennsylvania. He had been a truck driver for 11 years. He was of the Catholic faith. He served in the Navy abroad the USS Constellation during the Vietnam War.
Survivors also include his father, Ernest Abernathy of Montgomery; two daughters, Tammy Abernathy of Quincy and Sandie Abernathy of Louisiana; four stepchildren, Paul, Kevin and Henry Wear, all of Quincy, and Lori West of Mendon; four brothers, Allen Abernathy and Raymond Moots, both of Hurdland, Mo., John Moots of Gibbs, Mo., and Mike Moots of Alabama; a sister, Angie Young of Louisiana; two stepbrothers, Joe and Ricky Hemphill, both of Alabama; and nine grandchildren.
Mr. Abernathy was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean Moots.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in New Loraine Cemetery in Loraine.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight in the Curry-Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon.
A memorial fund has been established.
