Warren was born in Loami, where his father had settled in 1832. He married Mary Anne Dodd on November 22, 1868 in Sangamon County.

He farmed four miles south of Loami and there they had two children: Wheeler and Lycurgis. His wife fell ill with tuberculosis and shorty before she died, their infant son, Lycurgis died.

Warren left Loami for Waverly, Illinois and there married Molly Robinson on April 4, 1888. They moved to Quenemo Kansas, where she died of breast cancer in 1908. He died there four years later.
