Ethel S Tomlin, 98, a resident of Oak Ridge Health Care Center, died Saturday, March 13, 1993 at the health care center.
She and her late husband, Wilbur E Tomlin, moved to Oak Ridge in 1948. The couple, who married in 1932, resided at 105 Palmer Road for many years. They previously resided in Orono, Maine, where Mr. Tomlin was a chemistry professor. He had earlier taught in Mattoon, Illinois.
After moving to Oak Ridge, Mr Tomlin was employed with Union-Carbide Nuclear Division as a chemist at Oak Ridge National Labortary until his retirement. He died in 1964.
An active member of First United Methodist Church, Mrs Tolin was active with the Martha Circle and had enjoyed Work Day meetings at the church. She also traveled with the church's Older Adult Travel Group.
She also traveled extensively by herself, and often painted pictures of points of interests during her travels. In addition to painting, her creativity carried over into her sewing, needlework and quilting her family said. She made quilts for family members and for the new babies born into the family. She also corresponded with many friends and relatives, her family said.
The daughter of the late Sanford and Jennie Radford Sites, she was born August 29, 1894, in Hays, Kansas. She was a 1920 graduate of Fort Hays State University, and tuaght art and geometry in high schools in Kansas, Montana, Michigan and Illinois before her marriage.
A sister and two brothers, Nell Sites, Blaine Sites and Fred Sites, died earlier.
Mrs Tomlin is survived by a brother, John T Sites of Kansas City MO and by several nieces and nephews including John R Sites and his wife, Winifred of 11 Bellhaven Lane.
The funeral will be at 2 pm Wednesday, March 17, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Hoe with the Rev David Lovelace officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will recieve friends at the funeral home prior to the service
