Later that same year in 1850 the family relocated to Iowa (the 1856 Iowa State Census notes they had been in Iowa for six years). According to the 1854 Iowa State Census John and family (1 male and 4 females - likely his wife Sophia and three daughters Elizabeth, Mary, and Catharine) were in Muscatine City in Muscatine County. That census lists John as a voter. The 1856 Iowa State Census lists him as a Naturalized Citizen.
John & Sophia had eight children in 17 years:
1) Elizabeth N Allhausen b.1850 – d.1936
2) Mary C Allhausen b.1852
3) Katherine Ann Allhausen b.1854 – d.1929
4) Sophia S Allhausen b.1856 – d.1875
5) Anna Katherine Allhausen b.1858 – d.1908
6) Rosa C Allhausen b.1861 – d.1927
7) Susannah Allhausen b.1863 – d.1905
8) Julia Henrietta Elizabeth Allhausen b.1867 – d.1914
Various Iowa State and US Census show that they lived together on 8th Street in Muscatine City. In 1880, at age 62, John and wife Sophia were living with their daughter Julia, age 13, daughter Kate Morley and her two children Gracie & Laura, and daughter Rosie Burns and her two children Amos & Sophia.
Sophie died on March 13, 1886 in Muscatine. Later that same year, on October 21, 1886, John was issued a Muscatine County license to marry Leah M. O’Farrell nee Burns. John was 69 and Leah was a 51 year-old widow who, in 1885, was living in Muscatine City with her 4 children. She had been born in Ohio in 1835 and was working as a dressmaker in 1885. The license was not returned and it's unknown if they actually married.
Leah died on September 27, 1895 and by 1900 John had moved away from Muscatine and was living with his daughter Mary and her husband William Beemer in Wabash, Tippecanoe County Indiana. John died from heart disease on December 27, 1904 in Lafayette, Tippecanoe County Indiana at the age of 87 and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Muscatine.
