Mrs. Mary Ella Chalfan, aged 22 years, died at home of her mother, Mrs. Hiram McDonald near Vinton Station last Friday. She had been in poor health for some time and with her husband Samuel Luster Chalfan they were living with her mother at this time. Her funeral was preached by Dr. C. B. Taylor at U. B. Church near her house on Saturday and her remains were interred in Elk Fork Cemetery. (Rachel (Drake) McDonald Mary Ella Chalfan's mother wrote her obit):

In Memory of Mary Ella Chalfan, who Died June 02, 1905.

We saw her suffering, heard her sighs;
With throbbing hearts and weeping eyes,
But now she calmly sleeps at last,
God loved her, too, and he
thought best
To take her home to be at rest.
Dearest Mary we have laid thee
In the peaceful grave's embrace,
But thy memory will be cherished
Till we see thy heavenly face,
Rest in peace my dear daughter,
You are gone but not forgotten.
