Since two sons John and James are found here, and there are several other of their peer group here, with several stones illegible, I'm assuming the parents John and Mary "Polly" Barker are here too. One rationale is: why would James wait ten years and then be buried here too, if it wasn't where his family was?

John had been living with his siblings and their families at brother-in-law John Watson's place in Saint Marys prior to his death. His nephew James P. Watson had been born and died in DeLong and buried here in 1847 and niece Mary K. "May" in 1854, before the families moved to Saint Marys.

Though John Barker Sr. states that he was born in Monongalia County, the family is enumerated in Washington (voting and census district), and research has shown that it became this part of Virginia.

So it would make sense that this was the early family burial grounds and that they would even bring John's brother James (has headstone proof) back here for burial near his parents and brother, and his sister's children.
