John H. Jack Abromitis, 83, died at his home of 48 years on Saturday, March 31, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Born: He was born in Minersville, PA, on January 9, 1929 and was the son of the late Joseph and Ruth Seiler Abromitis.

Jack proudly served in the United States Marines during World War II and was honorably discharged as a Private 1st Class. Upon his return, Jack continued his service in the Marine Corps Reserve and then the National Guard. He was noted in a New Jersey Legislative Resolution as a Veteran of Underage Military Service. He worked as a conductor on the Central Railroad of New Jersey that later became NJ Transit. He was General Chairman for the United Transportation Union.

He moved his family to Hackettstown, NJ in 1964. Jack was an avid poker player in a local pub poker league. One of his greatest joys was playing Hold 'Em with his poker buddies, especially his good friends Wayne Miller and Fred Regentin. Memberships: He was a member of Our Lady of the Mountain Church, the Knights of Columbus, Joyce Kilmer Council and VFW Post 164.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Angela M. Roberti, at home; two sons, John J. and his wife Linda Abromitis of Hackettstown, NJ, and Michael and his wife Sue Abromitis of Cedar Grove, NJ; two daughters, Maryann McFadden of Hackettstown, NJ and Jacquelyn Abromitis and her spouse Kathleen Ulisse of Great Meadows, NJ; a brother, Robert Yurkonis of Avon, OH; one sister, Arlene Mollica of Butler, NJ; six grandchildren, John J. Abromitis, Jr. and his wife Eileen, Patrick McFadden Jr. and his wife Karen, Marisa McFadden Tamburello and her husband Michael, Matthew Abromitis, Kristin Jacobs and her husband Damien and Teresa Abromitis; six great-grandchildren, Mia Abromitis, Alice, Lilly, Julia and Phoebe Tamburello and Brandon Jacobs.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Abromitis and William Abromitis and a sister, Patricia Bohatch.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 2, 2012 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High St., Hackettstown, NJ 07840.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mountain Church, Rt. 24, Schooley's Mt., NJ.
