John Ellis Cannon, 85, of Sherrodsville and formerly of Canton, died Friday, April 15, 2011 in Union Hospital at Dover.

A son of the late Arthur and Rowena (Peterson) Cannon, John was born December 15, 1925 at New Athens, Ohio.

On January 18, 1944, John married the former Jeanette Paisley in West Virginia. The couple shared 67 years of marriage prior to Jeanette's passing on January 3, 2011. For more than forty years, John and Jeanette resided at Canton, Ohio and it was there that they raised their only daughter, Becky (husband, John) Saylor who now resides at Sherrodsville.

John worked as a heavy equipment operator for various construction companies as well as owning and operating his own company. He was a member of the Clinton Lodge #47, F. & A. M., the Hiram Chapter, R. A. M. of Massillon, The Knight's Templar, Warren Bower AMD, and the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Canton.

He was an enthusiast of antique cars and especially enjoyed Volkswagen Beetles. John also enjoyed traveling with Jeanette and their favorite vacation spots included the beaches of Florida, and Williamsburg, Virginia, but their favorite destination was the Outer Banks of North Carolina – where family outings were traditions for several years.

In addition to his daughter, "Papa" will be deeply missed by his four grandchildren; Jason (Gabrielle) Cannon of Dover, Cody (Danielle) Fiddler of Carrollton, Katie (Chris) Chappell of Sherrodsville, and Amy Fiddler, also of Sherrodsville and his great-grandchildren; McKenna and Jacob Cannon, Meckenna Ashley, Wyatt Fiddler, and Isabella Chappell. He is also survived by a sister Anna Jean Everhart of Uniontown, Pennsylvania.

Friends are invited to call Wednesday afternoon from 4-6PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Doug Neavin will lead John's funeral service in the chapel at 6PM Wednesday evening with Masonic services to follow.

A reception will follow in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home following the service. Private interment is planned in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
