Betty M. Beckham, 70, Florence, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at ECM Hospital.Betty was born in Florence on June 28, 1931, to her late parents, Felix and Maybell Holt Butler. She was a 1949 graduate of Coffee High School and attended Larimore Business College. She was a longtime, faithful member of Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ. She worked several years in merchandising at Sears and worked in the probate judges office at the Lauderdale County Courthouse in the 70s. Betty was an animal lover and especially loved cats, and she donated money to the Humane Society. She was an excellent cook and homemaker.Betty had many friends, and she was a thoughtful and loving friend herself. She loved her son and husband very much and sacrificed her wants and needs for them. She was overjoyed with her grandchildren.Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Burgess; and her brother, J.D. Butler.There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Elkins Funeral Home chapel, with Cory Collins and Kenny Barfield officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until service time. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.Betty is survived by her loving husband and companion of 54 years, Marvin G. Beckham; son, William G. Beckham and wife, Catherine A., Vestavia; and three grandchildren, Ben Habshey and wife, Amy, Eric Habshey and William Traylor Beckham.In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of your choice..
