Born on July 27, 1931, in Parke County, he was the son of C. Cliston Alward and L. Nadine Thomas Alward. He attended Grange Corner Elementary School and graduated from Marshall High School.
A self-employed mechanic, he operated a repair shop in Wallace and delivered bulk fuel for Citgo.
He first married Dorcas Cook on Oct. 24, 1952. She preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 1977. He then married Janice (Kelly) Robinson. She survives at Kingman.
He is also survived by son Larry (Diane) Alward of Lake Mill, Wisc.; stepson Mike (Diane) Robinson of Lafayette; daughters, Mrs. Carolyn (Donny) Bunch of Danville, Ill., and Mrs. Brenda (Denny) Downs of Hillsboro; stepdaughter Mrs. Patricia (Verlin) Lindley of Lafayette; brother Tom (Kay) Alward of Franfort; six grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, a half brother and a grandson.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 at Shoemaker Funeral Home, Waynetown. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Kenneth Majors officiating. Burial to follow at Wolf Creek Cemetery south of Wallace. Memorials may be made to the Wolf Creek Cemetery Association or to the Kingman United Methodist church.
