In 1935, he was living in Lincoln, Nebraska. He may already have been married to Marguerite at that time. However, by 1940, he was living at 1120 V. Street in Sacramento, California. He was still married, but his wife was not living with him. The 1940 US Census lists:

Edward Burwell, 30, son, married, 7th gr., laborer odd jobs, b. IA and had been living in Lincoln, NE in 1935.

Harold Burwell, 22, son, married, 8th gr., laborer construction, b. NE and had been living in Pennington SD 1935
Ethel Anderon, 50, lodger, high school 2, same house in 1935
He got his Social Security Number in Wyoming.
When WWII broke out, Edward John was unemployed and living in Trinity Center, California. On October 16, 1940, the day before his 31st birthday, this ruddy faced young man with blue eyes and brown hair, walked into the draft board office. He listed his mother as his nearest relative. The clerk noted that Edward was 6' tall and weighed 183 lbs.
In 1945, Edward and his wife, Marguerite, were living at 2601 6th NS, Sacramento, California. He was working as a machinist for Hansen Machine Works.
Edward John Burwell passed away on October 17, 1966 in San Luis Obispo, California.
