Hazel grew up and attended school and spent most of her life in western Oklahoma. She finished 8th grade and successfully completed the exit exam before attending high school in Pueblo, Colorado. She attended Teachers Norman School in Alva, and at the age of 18, returned home to Ioland in Ellis County where she taught in the rural schools of Lonebell and Packsaddle. After teaching two years, she attended Capitol City Business College in Oklahoma City. Upon graduation, she was hired as a cashier and bookkeeper for the Gro-Pro Store in Leedey. She remained there for seven years until she met A.E. Lovett. Hazel and Ab were married on June 19, 1928 in Canadian, Texas. In 1934, they ran a country store in Canadian. They then purchased land near Roll. This began the era of farming and ranching.
In 1960, Hazel and Ab moved to Cheyenne, and Ab continued his ranching activities in Roll until his death in 1985. Hazel remained in Cheyenne where she was involved in her church, Art Guild, Quilting Club, Senior Citizen's Center and Platonic Club. In 1991 she was honored as Outstanding Senior Woman of Roger Mills County, and in 1995 Hazel was inducted into the Western Oklahoma Historical Society Hall of Fame. In 1994, Hazel moved to Woodward to live at Crystal Wood Assisted Living Center.
She was a member of the Cheyenne First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Myrtle, Kily and Dollie and five brothers, Lance, Ray, Henry, Mim and George.
Services were held 10 a.m. Monday at the Cheyenne First Baptist Church officiated by Aubrey Cowan, and assisted by Terrell Romberg. Interment will be in the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Memorial may be made to the Hazel Lovett Memorial Fund at the Cheyenne First Baptist Church or Cheyenne Senior Citizens.
Survivors include; two daughters and son-in-law, Darlene and Dean Rounds of Livingston, Texas; Patsy and Wesley Lucas of Woodward; eight grandchildren; one brother and sister in law; Hugh and Clystia Harrel of Leedey; eight great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
