Margaret Sloan Clark, RN, 87, died Friday, August 10, at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. Her husband Bob, son John, and grandson Cody were with her at the time. Margaret was born in Brookings, South Dakota on October 6, 1919. She was the third child born to Roy and Edna Bentsen Sloan. The family moved to Mission, TX in 1933, to be near her mother's family. She attended schools in South Dakota, and graduated from Sharyland High School near Mission, TX. Following that, Margaret took her nurses training at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, TX, becoming a Registered Nurse in 1941. She worked in the hospital at Scott and White, later moving to McAllen, TX and worked at the Municipal Hospital there. Margaret became one of 'The Greatest Generation" by enlisting in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps, as an Ensign. She was stationed in San Diego, CA, serving in the Base Hospital there. Her fiancé, 1st Lt Robert E. Clark, returned from overseas, and they were married in San Diego on July 13, 1944. The Clarks spent several years living in Texas after WWII ended, moving to Bethany, Oklahoma in 1961. While living in Bethany, Margaret has been an active member of the Putnam City United Methodist Church, active in the Women's Group, the Sunday School Class and with many church sponsored projects. She also worked at Deaconess Hospital during the 1970s for several years. Margaret was a loving and kind person, and her special love was her family. She is survived by her husband of 63 yrs, Robert E. Clark; her son, John Peter Clark; grandson Cody Clark; great grandchildren, Brittany and Cameron Clark. She claimed as grandchildren, Kortney Harrington and her four children and Carson Arledge and his two children. She is also survived by her brother, Navy Capt Stan Sloan, of Tucson AZ, and sister, JoAn Sloan Johnson of Austin, TX; many nieces and nephews; and a number of cousins all of whom loved her dearly. Margaret bravely survived several bouts of cancer and the difficult treatments to follow; hip replacement, and several falls with quiet courage and strength. She managed to keep a positive attitude and faith in God through all her health challenges. The past few years have kept her homebound, but her Spirit remained strong through it all. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Edna Sloan, her sister, Rachel Sloan Bridges, her brother Lloyd E. Sloan, and her sister, Helen Sloan Young. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Mobile Meals of Oklahoma County, or Putnam City United Methodist Church.
