Arthur Jay Mansure got his start as a mining surveyor in Canada where he lived in a tent throughout the winter. When my he learned the love-of-his-life, Anna Grace McWhood, returned his sentiments, he returned to Pennsylvania determined to find whatever job he could. Coal was the common thread thought his career. In Detroit he worked on coal gasification for which he received several patents. In West Virginia he was a mining engineer. One of his jobs was to inspect the mine before detonations. One time while he was still underground the blasts were impatiently set off. Fortunately, he was safe and returned unharmed.
He was a lay pastor with the Methodist Church.
