Margaret L. "Grandma" Ward was born on November 26, 1912 to Ben and Daisy Mason in Lucas County, Iowa. She left this world on September 28, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the mother of three children, Lyle Hall, Patsy Cook, and Bernadine (Bernie) Freeman. On November 17, 1951, Margaret was united in marriage to the love of her life, Emery Ward. Margaret and Emery were the heart and soul of the family. Together they helped influence and guide many grandchildren and great-grandchildren over the years. Margaret and Emery enjoyed life. They loved to bowl, camp, dance and enjoyed spending countless evenings socializing in the local area establishments where Margaret became known to everyone as "Grandma." They also loved their family. Family meant everything to Margaret and she meant everything to us! She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alberta and Rhoda, brother, Bill, daughter, Patsy, son, Lyle and husband, Emery. Margaret leaves behind her beloved daughter, Bernie Freeman; her beloved Kevin; twelve grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 30 at Sunset Funeral Chapel in Des Moines. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
