Misti M. Jennings Wilkey Roedel, age 46, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Thursday morning, September 6, 2012, at the Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan.

She was born on July 8, 1966, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of William "Bill" Jennings and Barbara Ann (Fuller) Wilkey.

Misti attended her early elementary school years in Manhattan prior to her family moving to Basehor, Kansas where she completed her education, graduating from Basehor High School in 1984. While in high school she was active in numerous clubs and activities and enjoyed being a cheerleader. She was very proud that while she was in elementary school in Manhattan, she got to play the character of Dorothy in the school production of "Wizard of Oz."

Following her high school graduation she returned to Manhattan where she attended and graduated from Crum's Beauty School. In 1986, she moved to Warrensburg, Missouri where she met her future husband, Ronald R. Roedel. They were united in marriage on May 23, 1987, in Warrensburg.

Ron joined the military, so together they made their home in numerous locations over a number of years. During his military career they lived in Virginia and Texas, three years in Illesheim, Germany, four years at Fort Riley, Kansas and nine years in Tennessee

Misti was a Licensed Practical Nurse earning her Associates Degree in nursing from the Manhattan Area Technical College. She loved caring for people and enjoyed her work at the Leonardville Nursing Home in Leonardville, Kansas, the McKendree Village Nursing Home in Nashville, TN, where she was the Charge Nurse in care of the Alzheimer's unit and while living in Clarksville, TN, she was the administrator at Dogwood Bend Assisted Living. While living in Germany, she used her beauty school training as the manager of the AAFES Beauty Shop. In 2006, they moved back to make Manhattan their home, and where Misti could help take care of her grandmother.

Her passion for life, wonderful sense of humor and caring nature were reflected in all she did. While living in Tennessee, she was the volunteer Chairperson for the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk for three years. In her youth and later as an adult, she was active in 4-H. Upon moving back to Manhattan, she became active with the Ashland Community Church and FCE (Family Community Education). Misti enjoyed crafts, cooking, arranging flowers, and collecting Wizard of Oz, Santa Claus, Coca Cola and K-State memorabilia. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and attending all of her kids' activities. Her last act of kindness was being an eye donor, which will provide two individuals the gift of sight.

Misti is survived by her husband Ron, of the home. She is also survived by two sons: Cody B. Roedel (Blair), Overland Park, KS; Mikhail K. Roedel, Emporia, KS; one daughter: Harley B. Roedel, of the home; her mother and stepfather: Barbara Ann and Richard Wilkey, Gardner, KS and her father and stepmother: Bill and Martha Jennings, Republic, MO. Also surviving is one brother: Blair Jennings (Cassidy), Basehor, KS, two sisters: Lacey Rios (Steve), Kansas City, KS; Courteneay Edwards (Jason), Spring Hill, KS; eight nieces and nephews and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Paul Barkey officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashland Community Cemetery south of Manhattan.
