Spc. Ryan Thomas Abbott, U.S. Army of Saginaw, Michigan, beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 6, 2012, on his Army base in Fort Lewis, Washington. He was 35 years of age.
He was born October 16, 1976, in Saginaw, Michigan. He graduated from Swan Valley High School in 1995 and continued studies in electrical and computer engineering at Lawrence Tech University in Southfield, Michigan, on a full scholarship. He completed additional coursework while on base via Baker College.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 9, 2009 and was a Specialist serving at Fort Lewis as part of the 46th Aviation Support Battalion. While there he was awarded the Army Achievement Medal while engaged as Squad Leader for the Avionics Platoon.
Ryan was an avid outdoor enthusiast and regularly ran, cycled, and hiked through the woods in the state of Washington, and back home in Michigan.
Computers were a favorite tool and hobby, and he was known online for his music and wit under the name Margaras. He will be remembered for his off-beat sense of humor, his mischievous smile, his unswerving loyalty to his friends, and those he cared about, as well as for his deep sense of honor and fairness.
As Neil Gaiman, a favorite author writes, "You get what anybody gets - you get a lifetime." But for all of us left behind without you, Ryan, that lifetime wasn't nearly long enough.
Surviving are his mother, Nancy Eileen Abbott, Saginaw; his father, Cecil Maurice Abbott III and his wife Donna, Jacksonville, FL; his sister and brother-in-law Lisa Abbott and Atis Kleinbergs, Kalamazoo; several wonderful aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his Godmother, Mary Byron of Saginaw.
Funeral service will take place at noon on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the W.L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Chaplain Doug Kahl will officiate with military burial under the auspices of the U.S. Army in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. His family will receive friends and family and the chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road from 10am to noon on Saturday, September 15, 2012.
