BRAKEMAN IS HURT IN BELLWOOD YARD

Was in Act of Drilling Out Cars When Passenger Train Leaving Station at 8.40 Struck Him.

Elijah Edminston, aged 54 residing at 609 North Third street, Bellwood, employed as a yard brakeman on the Cresson division of the Pennsylvania railroad in the Bellwood yards, was struck by a passenger train this morning shortly after the train left the Bellwood station over the branch at 8.40 o'clock and seriously injured.

Mr. Edminston had gone to his work this morning at the usual time and was engaged in shifting or drilling out cars in making up trains. He was engaged with a special crew and was standing on the track just as train No. 8522, a passenger train going north came along. Mr. Edminston was struck by the engine.

Fellow workmen went quickly to the unfortunate workman and he was taken to the Bellwood station and brought to the Altoona hospital on train No. 661, which arrives in this city at 9.50.

The man was admitted to the hospital where it was found he suffered from a severe laceration at the top of the head, a gash four inches long being torn in the scalp. Five sutures were placed in the cut. The patient also suffered back injuries. An X-ray of both the head and back injuries will be taken, it is not thought the man suffers from any fracture.

Edminston is unable to tell anything about the accident. He was rendered unconscious after being hit.
