Civil War veteran; Private, Company C, 1 Minnesota Infantry (served three years). Born about 1824 in the Catskills of New York, Zachus Story was a resident of Anacortes from about 1900 to 1905, coming to Washington from Nebraska for health reasons. His wife Dorcas predeceased him, and she is buried in Mower County, Minnesota. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. He died in the town of Nelson, now part of Anacortes, and was buried in the nearby Bay View Cemetery of Skagit County. His funeral was conducted by the GAR. Source: Seattle P-I obit 4 Jul 1905.
