Carolyn Sue "Susie" Evans, 71, of Parkersburg, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 8, 2011.

She was born in Fayetteville, W.Va., the daughter of the late Walter L. Roberts and Dorothy L. Feazell Roberts of Fayetteville.

She graduated from Fayetteville High School, class of 1958 and kept in close contact with her classmates over the years. She went on to receive a Bachelor's degree from the West Virginia Institute of Technology in Montgomery, W.Va. in 1962. She began her teaching career in Meadow Ridge, W.Va. and shortly thereafter moved to Parkersburg. She taught third grade at Neale Elementary School and home economics and social studies at Washington and Jackson Jr. High Schools until she retired after 30 years of service.

She was a member of Beechwood Presbyterian Church for over 40 years, where she served in the choir, as Deacon and on numerous committees throughout the years. She was also a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, James M. Evans III of Parkersburg; daughter, Suzanne L. Evans of Parkersburg; son, James David Evans of Parkersburg; grandchildren, Jared L. Evans and Madison S. Evans, both of Parkersburg; brother, Walter Lee Roberts and his wife, Catherine of Laurel, Md.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Roberts.

The family would like to thank the following people for the kind and loving care that they provided to Mrs. Evans during her final days: Elaine Honaker, caregiver; William Cartwright, M.D.; Dena Lambert, RN.; the staff at Cornerstone Health Care and the staff at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Beechwood Presbyterian Church, with Reverend Dr. Stephen R. Melton officiating. Entombment will be at the Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 11:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, at which time the family will proceed to the church for the funeral service.

Susie will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all of those that she touched. Memorial contributions and gifts of love may be made to the Beechwood Presbyterian Church: 703 30th Street, Parkersburg, W.Va.
