Donald O. AckersonAge 65 of Rice Lake, WI, died Saturday, September 08, 2012 at his home.

Don was born on January 18, 1947 in Rice Lake to Arthur and Catherine (Richter) Ackerson. He graduated from the Rice Lake High School in 1965 and served in the United States Air Force from 1965-1969. While stationed in England he met and then married Denise Wells on August 5, 1969 and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Don was employed by the Rice Lake Post Office from 1969-1996 as a letter carrier, clerk and then became Assistant Postmaster and Supervisor. He then transferred to the Bruce Post Office in 1996 and retired as Postmaster in 2009.

Don was a member of the VFW, the Rice Lake American Legion Post, loved to fish, play dart ball, watch the Green Bay Packers, loved to work in his house and his yard, he loved wood working and especially loved being with his wife and family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Denise Ackerson of Rice Lake; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kerrie Ackerson of Altoona, WI; a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Tony Pica of Rice Lake, WI; 3 grandchildren, Francesca, Giuseppe and Morgan; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Barb Ackerson of Rice Lake, Henry and Carolyn Ackerson of Rice Lake and Phillip and Lisa Ackerson of Keller, Texas; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene and Jerry Hathaway of Milwaukee, WI, Joyce and Smoky Coleman of Solon Springs, WI and Diane Stenseth and Bruce of Rice Lake; many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Catherine Ackerson and a brother, Wayne Ackerson.

Graveside Services and full Military Rites will be accorded by the Rice Lake Veterans Center Honor Guard on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 11AM at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM Wednesday at Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake. There will be a Prayer Service at 7PM Wednesday at Appleyard's Home for Funerals.
