"Walter Hodge Bunn, at one time one of the best known men in Queens borough, died Sunday at his home, 470 Napier avenue, Richmond Hill, in his 79th year, after a long illness from heart trouble. Mr. Bunn was one of the oldest practicing lawyers in Queens and for the last five years had been head of the law firm of Bunn & Collins of Jamaica. At one time Mr. Bunn took a prominent part in politics in Queens and during the Gresser administration was commissioner of public works. Mr. Bunn was one of the original Cleveland supporters, and in 1892, as a delegate to the Democratic national convention in Chicago, he was one of those who took part in the historic contest which forced the nomination of President Cleveland for a second term. In the following year President Cleveland appointed him Appraiser of the port of New York, and he served in this office until 1897. He at one tine also held the office of United States marshal for the northern district of New York. Mr. Bunn was a member of the Masonic fraternity. He is survived by six children, who are Charles W., who is the deputy appraiser of the port of New York; Mrs. C. W. Davidson of Cooperstown, N. Y.; F. A. Bunn, a lawyer, of Brooklyn; Walter H. Bunn, jr., and Samuel B. Bunn, of Manhattan, and Miss Amy E. Bunn of Richnond Hill. There is also one sister, Mrs. S. S. Matteson of Oneonta, N. Y." "BURIAL AT MORRIS - The body of the Hon. Walter H. Bunn, whose death occurred at Richmond Hill, N.Y., February 4th, will be taken to Morris, his boyhood home, for interment in Hillington cemetery, Sunday, June 30th, at 3 p. m. The funeral will be in charge of the Masonic fraternity and will undoubtedly be largely attended." [The Otsego Farmer & Republican (Cooperstown, NY), June 21, 1918, p. 5, col. 4]
