Ferdinand Michael Malsch was born in Germany on May 9, 1866. His United States Federal Naturalization Records state that he arrived in New York from Germany on December 10, 1872 when he was 6 years old. Ferdinand became a citizen of The United States on December 9, 1901 at the age of 35.

The 1880 Federal Census Records list Ferdinand as living with his parents, Valetine Malsch and Margaret Bodenstein Malsch, along with three younger brothers and one older sister.

Ferdinand married Katherine Clara Diethorn on June 21, 1887, at the age of 21. They had seven children - two daughters and five sons. Their children include - Louise (1888-1965), Ferdinand (1893-1970), George (1899-1900), Raymond (1901-1969), Herman (1904-1983), Mathilda (1906-1984) and Carl (1908-1910).

Ferdinand worked as a laborer and as a boss in the Nut & Bolt Manufacturing Industry in Pittsburgh.

Ferdinand passed away on March 16, 1941 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the age of 74. He is buried at First Saint Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Mount Oliver, Pennsylvania. Ferdinand's son, Carl, along with his parents and three brothers are also buried at First Sant Paul's cemetery. Ferdinand's wife, Katherine Clara Diethorn Malsch is buried at Saint John Vianney cemetery, in the Carrick Section of Pittsburgh, along with her parents, brothers and sisters.
