Mrs. Dawn M. Diefendorf, 45, of the Palatine Nursing Home, died Friday at the residence after a long illness. Born in Amsterdam, Mrs. Diefendorf was a lifelong area resident. She was a 1967 graduate of Fort Plain Central School. She worked in the payroll department of the Beech Nut Nutrition Co. in Canajoharie, retiring due to illness. Mrs. Diefendorf was a communicant of St. John's Lutheran Church in Freysbush. Her husband, Dennis Diefendorf, whom she married on April 6, 1968, died in 1982 from injuries occurred in an motorcycle accident. Survivors include two sons, Paul R. Diefendorf of the U.S. Navy at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, Calif., and William R. Diefendorf of St. Johnsville; and a brother, Everett "Jim" Homkey of Canajoharie. A service will be held at 10 am Tuesday at the chapel of Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
