Mr. Grady James Johnson, 87, of Mt. Airy, widower of Mrs. Mamie Inez Badgett Johnson, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 4, 2007.

He was born in Surry County on May 21, 1920 to the late Charlie and Ida Hardy Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a retired farmer and a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Myra Lee and James Guilliams of Henry, Va. and Jametta and James Lineberry of Pilot Mountain; two sons and daughters-in-law: James Monroe and Sandra Johnson of Mt. Airy and Earnie and Vicki Johnson of Mt. Airy; twelve grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law: Faye Marion Atkins and husband Greer; two sisters-in-law: Sylvia Johnson of Mt. Airy and Hazel Johnson of Dobson.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by two brothers: Marvin Johnson and Fred Johnson and a sister, Vada Lewis.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Kermit Gray and Rev. Eddie Honeycutt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson where his body will remain until time to be carried to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the funeral service.
