Funeral services for a Butler county pioneer, Elijah (Bud) Adkisson, 81, were held Saturday, Aug. 11, from the First Methodist Church, Rising City, with Rev. Price of York, officiating.

Morris Stephens was vocalist and was accompanied by Mrs. Wm. Stephens.

Serving as pallbearers were five grandchildren and a nephew of the deceased: Richard, Oscar, Kenneth, Donald and Daniel Adkisson of Columbus, and Lester Washburn of Phillips. Interment was in Circle Mound Cemetery at Rising City.

Mr. Adkisson, the son of Elijah and Christian Jones Adkisson, was born September 21, 1874, on the family homestead in a sod house located three miles west and 1 1/2 miles south of Rising City. He spent all but 11 years of his lifetime on this same farm. The past six months he was hospitalized. One of six children, he was the last to survive.

On April 27, 1897, he was united in marriage to Mary Schlesinger in a country church near Shelby. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in April 1947. Five children were born to them, four of whom are living: three sons, Hubert of Seattle, Wash., Oscar of Columbus and Frank of Casper, Wyo. and one daughter, Mrs. Albert (Alma) Steyer of Papillion. A son, Fred, preceded him in death on November 26, 1933.

Besides his wife and children, his survivors include 13 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends in attendance at the funeral services were from Casper, Wyo., Papillion, Columbus, Clarks, Osceola, Shelby, Rising City, Benedict, Platte Center, David City, Omaha, Lincoln and York.
